{using a block}

Don't let yourself be resistant to using a block for your practice. A block can be a strong aide when you are new to class, a strong aide when you need a few more inches, and a stronger aide for a seasoned practice to get deeper and more open.

Here are a few of my favorite uses for a block:

1. Balancing Half Moon. Placing a block under my hand helps me to lift and open in half moon.

2. Warrior Three. I have an old injury to a tendon on my right foot that I didn't allow to properly heal. The subtle shifting your foot does to allow one leg balance poses isn't something I can handle on that foot. Placing two blocks under my hands on their highest level allows me to achieve this pose with proper alignment and a strong lift. It still takes work to lift my back leg parallel to the ground. I try to get a little light on my hands to make my core work while still stabilizing my foot.
